SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs media relations, crisis communications, the assigning and editing of print and video news releases and news-related web content, social media, faculty media training and the production of an array of print and electronic collateral for UF&Shands, the University of Florida Academic Health Center (AHC), which includes six health-related colleges, five major research institutes, and the Shands family of hospitals in Gainesville and Jacksonville. Preferred candidate is a strong and versatile writer and editor with substantial supervisory experience, excellent organizational and planning skills, and the ability to conceptualize, develop and produce content for a variety of communications channels on behalf of the Gainesville-based News and Publications team. Facilitates the exchange of information between the AHC and its various internal and external constituents, including faculty, staff, students, patients, media, alumni, private donors, agencies and businesses that support research, and local, state and national government officials. The Director reports to the Chief Communications Officer of UF&Shands and works in a matrixed system that includes additional teams devoted to strategic communications and public affairs/internal communications, marketing, creative services, web services, advancement communications and UF&Shands Jacksonville to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to all aspects of communications and public relations. Responsible for informing constituents of advances in health sciences research, educational programs, patient care and community services through the deployment of communications strategies and tools. The Director will serve as the primary spokesperson for the Academic Health Center, including its constituent hospitals in Gainesville, and establish strategic direction for external communication services.
